On Your Cruise Vacation: Cruise Etiquette, Cruise
Manners, Cruise Gratuities
There are some points that need to be remembered when
it comes to the proper etiquette to be employed on your
cruise vacation. Through this article, you are provided
an overview of some of the more basic rules of etiquette
to be remembered for your cruise vacation. In short,
on a cruise vacation, manners remain important.
Follow the Dress Code
When it come to your cruise vacation, you need to be
sure to wear appropriate clothing for the function that
you will be attending or participating in at any given
point in time. If you do not want to hassle with clothing
changes, look for and book a cruise trip that does not
have a clothing or dress code. Look for a casual cruise.
Control Your Children
Even if you are on a cruise vacation that includes
families -- parents and children -- it remains important
for you to keep your children under control. Do not
-- ever -- permit your children to run wild on a cruise
ship. It is dangerous for them and unfair to the passengers
who are attempting to enjoy their cruise trip.
Don’t Save Seats
As a general rule, you should not save seats at meals
or shows during the course of your cruise. It is appropriate
to save one seat for your spouse or traveling companion.
However, no single person should save more than one
seat at any affair onboard. (Unfortunately, on every
cruise you will run into a seat hog that tries to glom
onto a bunch of seats.)
Don’t Jog Before Dawn
Many people enjoy jogging around the deck of a cruise
ship. In fact, this can be wonderful exercise. However,
because you likely will be jogging by cabins, you need
to be considerate and not jog too early. Certainly,
as a rule of thumb, do not jog before sunrise.
Wait Your Turn
There will be a number of instances during the course
of a cruise at which you will have to queue up. It is
important that you wait your turn and that you do not
grumble about having to wait.
Be Considerate in the Gym and Spa
When taking advantage of the gym and spa facilities
on a cruise ship, make certain that you are considerate
of others that are enjoying the facilities. Dress appropriately.
Do not hog the equipment. Have fun.
Follow Directions
Finally, while on a cruise trip, make certain that
you follow directions that are given to you by the ship’s
crew. Your safety and security may depend on your following
these directions.
Gratuities on a Cruise
Finally, in addition to general cruise etiquette you
may find yourself with questions about gratuities on
a cruise.
When it comes to tipping on a cruise, the easy answer
to who you should tip is anyone that provides a service
to you that you believe has done a good job.
In point of fact, at the end of a cruise, small tip
envelopes will be left in your cabin. These are to be
used to tip people who have provided you services onboard.
(You do not have to pass out tips each day and at every
turn.)
Suggested tips for major players on your cruise trip
include:
- • room steward = $3.50 per day
- • dining room waiter = $3.50 per day
Keep in mind that on a cruise trip when you go to the
spa or have your hair done, a gratuity automatically
will be added to your overall tab.
